Let’s SEE What the Local Fishing Scene is All About

All right, your homie Tito here gonna tell you about my experiences fishing out of the local lakes. I am just telling you how I see things and what I learned about fishing locally when I did a quick Google search for this article. Fishing locally is really good and folks from Portlandia who come here are like “Hey Chad, the fishing here is on par with that of the Minnesota region”. I guess that means they really like it! Just remember when you go fishing, go prepared with your pole and legit with your fishing license. Enjoy!

Emigrant Lake (Ashland)
This lake is one of the closest places to go fishing, and the nearest lake that allows you to fish from a boat. But if you are as poor as me, you don’t have to worry about taking a boat to Emigrant Lake in Ashland. Most of us just set up our fishing spot near the dam that holds back the lake. There is a little boating dock where you can put your stuff down and cast away. Make sure to cover your drinks with paper, sometimes the police get all confident and get out of their cars to ask for your fishing license. Most of the fish you’ll find in Emigrant Lake are bass (lubina) and trout (trucha) and are really not worth eating because of worms, many bones and pollutants. But hey, there is a huge lake to enjoy along with a decent little water park and a large picnic area. Lots of groups on the weekends. Fun! Fun!

Applegate Lake (Upper Applegate Road)
This is one of my least favorite places to go because it’s far and my Cricket mobile doesn’t get good service out past Applegate. Also, the road is windy and it makes me car sick, not to mention that gas is expensive nowadays! By the way who names a lake after apples? Have you ever heard of Tortilla Lake? Just kidding! make sure to get essentials before you come out here because going back to Applegate for worms and drinks is not the best. You can fish at Applegate Lake or the Applegate river, both are nice and icy cold, so if you wanna keep your drinks cold, put it in the water. Applegate Lake is known for it’s rainbow trout (trucha arcoiris) and sometimes a fisherman will catch salmon. But another fish species to look out for is the “largemouth” bass (lubina), it’s like a bass that won’t shut up about his life and you finally have to throw it back into the water. Seriously, it’s just got a large mouth. Enjoy the fishing and picnic areas, it’s best to go on Saturday morning with your amigos!

The Ponds at Expo Park (Central Point)
Did you ever have a horrible day at work and thought, “I need to fish my worries away!” Well, that’s what the Ponds at the Expo are for! Quick and stress free fishing. And yeah, the fish are not very smart too. Seriously, my homie Turtle (Tortuga) went out there once with a fishing line, an empty can of coke, rusty paperclip and little stick (palito) and nearly got all the fish in the pond. That day, he was like a fishing god or something. Like every time he cast the line, a fish was like “oh, a shiny thing, I’ll just eat it!” I couldn’t believe it! Anyhow, while I said this is a good place to just hangout and fish, I should warn you to not eat the fish. The Ponds are more about “catch and release”, so just throw the fish back into the water with a warning like “hey silly, don’t bite every shiny thing you see!”

Lost Creek Lake (highway 62)
Ok, now you think your all confident because you visited the places I mentioned above and you think “Tito, where else should I go? I got all the fishing gear and I gotta return it in 30 days or they’ll charge my credit card!” Well, you better go and ask your friend with a good car that doesn’t overheat going uphill because you’re gonna go past Eagle Point deep into the woods. I recommend to take some homies along. Also, my comadre told me that there is a paisa in Prospect who makes really good comida Mexicana, so make sure to drop in and try something off the menu. Tell’m Tito said “hey, pay me back those 200 bucks, it’s been 2 years already? Really? Ok, just kidding. To get to Lost Creek Lake, just keep on going on highway 62 and you can’t miss it, huge lake with a long concrete dam, you can set up and fish from here. There is a boat loading area for you too. Most of the fish you find here are gonna be rainbow trout (trucha arcoiris) because the Forest Department puts them there to repopulate the area. I tried the fish out of here before but my homie Manny got a bone stuck in his throat so I’d be careful unless you know what you are doing. Homie Manny lived but anytime I invite him out fishing he always says “why, so you can finally kill me this time? Hell no!”
Well, that’s my review for the month. Next issue I’ll see about reviewing some other sports like hiking and rafting. Take care and have a good time fishing!

Veamos de qué se trata el Escenario de Pesca Local

Bueno Aquí tu amigo Tito, te voy a decir de mi experiencia de pescando en los Lagos locales. Te voy a decir como veo las cosas y lo que aprendí acerca de pescar localmente cuando hice una búsqueda rápida en Google para este artículo. Pescar localmente es súper bueno y cuando los amigos de Portlandia quienes vienen aquí dicen algo así “Hola Chad, la pesca aquí está a la par con la de la región de Minnesota”. Yo supongo que eso significa ¡que realmente les gusta! Sólo recuerde ir con su caña de pescar y su licencia legítima de pescar. ¡Disfrute!

Lago Emigrant (Ashland)
Éste lago es uno de los más cercanos para ir a pescar, y uno de los Lagos más cercanos que te permite pescar desde el bote. Pero si eres tan pobre como yo, no tienes que preocuparte de llevar un bote a lago de Emigrant en Ashland. La mayoría de nosotros nos sentamos con nuestro equipo de pescar cerca a la presa que sostiene el lago. Hay un pequeño muelle donde puedes dejar tus cosas y empezar a pescar. Asegúrese de cubrir sus bebidas con papel, algunas veces la policía es muy confidente y se pueden bajar del carro y preguntarles por su licencia de pescar. La mayoría de los veces que encontrarás en el lago de Emigrant son lubina y trucha pero realmente no vale la pena comerlos porque tienen gusanos, muchos huesos y contaminantes. Pero sin embargo, el lago es muy grande para divertirse, un parque de agua pequeño decente y un área de picnic grande. Muchos grupos en el fin de semana. ¡Divertido! ¡Divertido!

Lago de Applegate (Upper Applegate Road)
Éste es uno de mis Lagos menos favoritos para ir porque es lejos y mi teléfono Cricket no tiene buen servicio cuando pasa el Applegate. Además, el camino tiene muchas vueltas y me pone enfermo. Y sin mencionar que ¡la gasolina es mucho más cara en estos días! Y de paso, ¿ Quien nombra a un lago con el nombre de manzana? Alguna vez has escuchado un lago con el nombre de tortilla? ¡sólo es una broma! Asegúrese de llevar las cosas esenciales antes de dirigirse a ese lugar porque ir al lago de Applegate y regresar por lombrices y bebidas no es lo mejor. Puede pescar en el lago Applegate o en el río Applegate, ambos son muy buenos y el agua es bien fría, entonces si usted quiere mantener sus bebidas frías póngalas en el agua. El lago Applegate se conoce por la trucha arcoíris y a veces algunos de los pescadores podrían coger salmón también. Pero otra especie de pescado que aparece es el lubina de boca grande, Éste pescado es del tipo que no se puede callar acerca de su vida y finalmente lo tienes que regresar al agua. En serio, ¡tiene una boca enorme! Diviértanse con la pesca y las áreas de picnic, es mejor ir el sábado por la mañana ¡con tus amigos!

Los estanques en el Expo Park (Central Point)
¿Alguna vez has tenido un día horrible en el trabajo y pensaste?, “!necesito ir a pescar y deshacerme de mis preocupaciones!” bueno, ¡para eso están los estanques en el Expo! Fáciles de llegar y pesca sin estrés. Y si, los pescados son tan tontos que no lo puedes creer. En serio, mi amigo Tortuga y yo fuimos una vez con nuestro hilo de pescar, una lata de Coca-Cola vacía, un sujetador de papel oxidado, y un palito, y casi pudo pescar todos los pescados del estanque. Ese día, era como el dios de la pesca o algo así. Cada vez que el tiraba el hilo de pescar, un pescado pensaba “Oh, una cosa brillante, ¡me lo comeré! ¡No lo podía creer! De todos modos, cuando digo que ese es un buen lugar para pescar y pasar el rato, debo advertirle que no coma el pescado. Los estanques son para pescar y dejarlos libres, simplemente devuelva los pescados de regreso al agua, con una advertencia que diga “hey tonto, ¡No muerdas cada cosa brillante que veas!”

Lago Lost Creek (highway 62)
Bueno, ahora piensas que tienes mucha confianza y eres un engreído porque ya visitaste todos los lugares que mencioné anteriormente y piensas “Tito, ¿Donde más debería ir? Tengo todo el equipo de pesca y tengo que devolverlo en 30 días o ¡ellos me recargarán a mi tarjeta de crédito!” Bueno es lo mejor que puedes hacer es ir a preguntar a uno de tus amigos que tenga un buen carro que no recaliente yendo colina arriba porque vas a tener que pasar Eagle Point bien dentro de los bosques. Recomiendo que lleves unos amigos. Además, mi comadre me dijo que hay un paisa en Prospect quien hace una buena comida Mexicana, entonces asegúrate de visitarlo y probar algo del menú. Dile que Tito dijo “Oye págueme los $200, ¡ha sido ya dos años! ¡increíble! Bueno sólo estoy bromeando. Para llegar a Lost Creek, siga manejando en el Highway 62 y no lo puedes perder, un enorme lago con una presa de hormigón bien larga, puede poner su equipo de pesca desde ahí. También hay un aria para los botes. La mayoría de los pescados que se encuentra ahí van hacer trucha arcoíris porque el Forest Department los pone ahí para repoblar el área. Yo freí el pescado pero a mi amigo Manny se le quedó un hueso atracado en la garganta entonces ten mucho cuidado si no sabes lo que estás haciendo. Mi amigo Manny vivió pero cualquier momento que lo invito a pescar él siempre me dice “¿porque? ¿para que finalmente me puedes matar?¡claro que no! ”Bueno, esta es mi revisión del mes. La siguiente vez veré algo acerca de otros deportes como caminatas en bosques y rafting. Cuídense mucho y ¡tengan una buena pesca!
