¿QUÉ PASA SI MI HIJO ES ACOSADO “BULLIED” EN LA ESCUELA?

Tristemente, la intimidación tiene lugar en nuestra sociedad. Muchos niños se avergüenzan cuando son intimidados y pueden no decirle a sus padres u otro adulto inmediatamente. Tómese el tiempo para discutir con su hijo lo que es intimidación, por ejemplo: peleas, llamadas de nombres, burlas, amenazas, ignorar a alguien en repetidas ocasiones, etc. Los niños que son acosados pueden ser propensos a que no les vaya tan bien en la escuela, una baja autoestima, se aparten y tengan miedo de participar en las actividades escolares. Si su hijo le dice que él o ella está siendo intimidado o acosado en la escuela, tómelo en serio y hable con su maestro, consejero o oficial de la escuela (SRO officer) sobre el tema. Inculque en su hijo que si él o ella está siendo intimidado, siempre es mejor: Decirle a sus padres o un adulto de confianza, evitar pelear y en su lugar alejarse o intentar hablar de ello. La intimidación no tiene lugar en nuestras escuelas, barrios o comunidad.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS BULLIED AT SCHOOL

Sadly, bullying does take place in our society. Many children become embarrassed when they are bullied and may not tell their parents or another adult immediately. Take time to discuss with your child what bullying is, for example: fighting, name calling, teasing, making threats, leaving someone out repeatedly, intimidation, etc. Children who are bullied may be prone to do poorly in school, become depressed, have a low self-esteem, experience withdrawal and may be afraid to participate in school activities. If your child tells you he or she is being bullied at school, take it seriously and talk to their teacher, counselor, or SRO officer about the issue. Instill in your child that if he or she is being bullied, it is always best to: Tell their parents or a trusted adult, avoid fighting and instead walk away or, attempt to talk it out. Bullying has no place in our schools, neighborhoods or community.
