Tengo 71 años hoy. Nací en Zacatecas, México. Cuando éramos chicos, éramos muy pobres. Sembrábamos nuestra propia comida en tierras de cultivo desiertas. Todo el mundo se mudó del pueblo en el que crecí. He pasado toda mi vida trabajando en la agricultura, más de 50 años aquí en el Rogue Valley. Estoy muy feliz y tranquilo. Agradezco a Dios que todos mis hijos nacieron aquí en los Estados Unidos. Aquí hay mejores oportunidades para ellos. Si hubieran nacido en México, sería un tipo de pobreza que no me gustaría que nadie tuviera que vivir. – José

I am 71 years old today. I was born in Zacatecas, Mexico. When I was growing up, we were very poor. We grew our own food on deserted farmland. Everyone moved out of the village that I grew up in. I have spent my whole life working in agriculture, over 50 years here in the Rogue Valley. I am very happy and at peace. I thank God that all of my children were born here in the United States. There are better opportunities for them here. If they were born in Mexico, it would be a type of poverty that I wish nobody would have to live through. – José
