Laz Ayala

“Si desea ir rápido, vaya solo. Si desea ir lejos, vayan juntos.” Esta proverbio puede resumir a Laz Ayala, pero tal vez la historia de Laz no puede ser resumido. Un libro tal vez es necesario. La gente lee de las oportunidades que ofrece la vida. Laz creó sus propias oportunidades desde joven. Su interés en abejas recientemente viene de sus aventuras de infancia cuando él tomó una colmena y corrió por su pueblo natal de San Ildefonzo en El Salvador mientras la gente se reía de las incontables picaduras de abejas que estaba acumulando en su búsqueda de la miel. Laz fue implacable, valiente y dispuesto a soportar el dolor por algo que su familia no podía comprar.

Con la personalidad de Laz, también desarrolló un genuino interés en aprender. “Para tener éxito, siempre debes tener un propósito. Lo que haces debe tener sentido,”recordó Laz sobre su infancia y sobre cómo entró en el mercado inmobiliario desde la edad de veinte años. Está, Laz Ayala el hombre de negocios, la figura paterna, y ahora, la historia en desarrollo de Laz, la persona que busca maneras únicas de ayudar. “Si no ayudas a los demás, ¿qué significa todo esto (que logramos)?”

¿Qué significan todos los logros de Laz Ayala? En la mente de Laz, la palabra oportunidad tiene un gran significado. ¿Cómo se mueve un jóven indocumentado al sur de Oregon a la edad de veinte años y se convierte en el principal agente de bienes raíces en el valle en su primer año? Se logra con a la oportunidad que Laz aprovechó. Ahora, generosamente da oportunidades a otros pero a una escala mucho mayor brindando a la comunidad becas locales en asociación con Southern Oregon University, ayudando a mejorar instalaciones escolares como en Kids Unlimited Academy, y también devolviendo a su ciudad natal en El Salvador.

Laz ha viajado a partes rurales de El Salvador para regalar estufas más eficientes a familias pobres que solo usan estufas a cielo abierto para cocinar sus alimentos. Laz se ha llevado a su propia familia para ayudar a las familias a construir estufas más modernas y eficientes. Estas estufas son mucho más seguras. Usan 90% menos de leña y las estufas tienen ventilación para evitar que las familias inhale humo. Esto ha mejorado su calidad de vida y ha evitado futuros problemas de salud.

Laz no sólo ha regalado más de 150 estufas, sino que recuerda vívidamente haber instalado una para una señora de su ciudad natal. Una que lo había visto correr cuando era niño perseguido por las abejas cuando regresaba de recoger leña. Después de recordarle a la señora quién era y con qué iba a ayudarla, una larga pausa con sus ojos llenos de lágrimas siguió con un emocionado, “¡Lazarito!”. Igual que ella ayudaba a Laz de niño, ahora Laz la estaba ayudando. Él le ahorró su tiempo de ir a recoger leña todos los días y le dejó un recuerdo que usará todos los días.

Laz continúa apoyando e invirtiendo en las personas y comunidades al igual que las personas y las comunidades invirtieron en él. Su historia pronto será documentada y compartida a todo el mundo en forma de un libro. El joven una vez indocumentado que se ha logrado ser un exitoso hombre de negocios y filántropo.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This African Proverb may summarize Laz Ayala, but maybe Laz’s story cannot be summarized. A book may be required. Some people read about the many opportunities that life offers. Laz created his at an early age. His recent interest in bees stemmed from a childhood adventure of taking a beehive and running through his home village of San Lldefonzo in El Salvador while people laughed at the countless bee stings that he was accumulating in his search of honey. Laz was relentless, fearless, and willing to endure the pain for something his family could not afford.

With Laz’s personality, there also came a genuine interest in learning. “To succeed, you must always have purpose. What you do needs to make sense,” Laz reminisced on his childhood and thinking about how he entered real estate the early age of twenty. There is Laz Ayala the businessman, the father figure, and now, the developing story of Laz the person that searches for unique ways to give back. “If you don’t give back, then what does this all mean?”

What do all of Laz Ayala’s accomplishments mean? The word opportunity echoes in Laz’s mind. How does a young undocumented youth move to the Rogue Valley at the age of twenty and become the top real estate agent in the valley in his first year? It is accomplished because of the opportunity Laz embraced. Now, he generously gives opportunities to others but at a much larger scale giving to the community through local scholarships in partnership with Southern Oregon University, helping to upgrading school facilities such as at Kids Unlimited Academy, and also giving back to his hometown in El Salvador.

Laz has taken trips to rural parts of El Salvador to provide more efficient stoves to poor families that solely use open pit stoves to cook their food. Laz has taken his own family to help families build more modern and efficient stoves as well as show the families how to use them. These stoves are much safer. They use 90% less firewood and the stoves have vents to prevent the whole family from breathing in smoke. This has improved their quality of life and prevented future health problems.

Laz has not only provided over 150 stoves, but he vividly remembers installing one for a woman from his hometown, one who had watched him run around as a kid being chased by bees as he returned from gathering firewood. After reminding the woman who he was and what he was going to help her with, a long pause with eye filled tears followed an excited, “Lazarito!” Just as she watched out for Laz at times, now Laz was watching out for her. He saved the time she would have to go gather firewood and a memorable stove.

Laz continues to watch out and invest in people and communities just as people and communities invested in him. His story will soon be documented and shared throughout the world in the form of a book. The once undocumented youth that has become a successful businessman and philanthropist.
